Thalwil, Switzerland – December 20, 2016 – u-blox (SIX:UBXN), a global leader in wireless and positioning modules and chips, today announced that two of its products have been used by Cobilsys to create South Korea’s smallest battery-powered asset tracking device.
The ATPACK tracker measures 53 x 48 x 15 mm and can be used to track the location of items such as cars, motorcycles and pets. At its core is the u-blox EVA-M8M, industry’s smallest concurrent GNSS module, which can work with GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou. Complementing this location-tracking module is the ultra-compact u-blox SARA-U270 HSPA/GSM communications module, which transmits the asset’s location via the local cellular network.
Cobilsys chose the u-blox modules for its tracker because of their small size and high power-efficiency, which enables the ATPACK to run on a compact and single 700mA battery for up to five days. The u-blox technical support team worked closely with Cobilsys to create the tracker.
Yil-Hwan Kim, CEO at Cobilsys, said: “The small size of the u-blox modules was crucial in enabling us to realize our vision of creating South Korea’s smallest battery-powered 3G asset tracker. u-blox also provided exceptional support for us as we developed ATPACK, which helped us launch a successful product within a short timescale.”
Shone Kim, Country Manager of u-blox Korea, added: “The ATPACK tracker demonstrates the value of u blox’s ultra-compact and power-efficient GNSS and communications components in creating innovative and useful products for the connected world. The blend of these characteristics means product manufacturers don’t need to compromise on functionality while aiming to meet form factor and power budget requirements.”
In the long term, the ATPACK will extend the scope of its applications.
